Welcome to Week 2’s Predictions! We’ll do our best to predict the winners, losers, and those that will walk away with that dreaded 1 point from a tie. With the Charlotte Phoenix dropping out of the league, we’ll be excluding their potential opponents from this weeks predictions.
Prediction: 2-0 ANEW Esports
Life Support had a respectable 2-2 showing last week, beating Supernova but then losing to Mirage. ANEW also went 2-2 last week in the form of 1-1 ties. We believe ANEW underperformed last week and bounces back to form this week.
Prediction: 2-0 Supernova
What happened to Supernova? They were considered early on to be a front runner for this league, and now they find themselves near the bottom of the standings after week 1. Polar Ace has some decent talent but we’re not sure we can predict big things with DMK’s recent departure for the LAN scene. Ultimately we believe Supernova’s talent and coaching staff rebound and take this series.
Prediction: 2-0 XTGN
Description: Team Fish Taco pulled off some single game upsets last week against some good teams to end up 2-2 overall. XTGN made some even bigger moves that same week. We think XTGN’s stock is rising and TFT’s stock is falling this week.
Prediction: 2-0 100 Thieves Next
Dark Allegiance had a respectable week last week, but 100 Thieves NEXT are the kings around here until someone dethrones them.
Prediction: UPSET ALERT! 2-0 Simplicity
Maryville had a very poor showing last week, and currently sits at the bottom of the standings in Group B. Despite that we still think on paper Maryville is one of the stronger teams in the league, while Simplicity is probably just above average. Coach Zeu blamed last weeks record on bad drafts on his part. Do they get it fixed this week? Maybe, maybe not, but the combination of last weeks poor performance coupled with the buzz around the players being picked up by a new organization in Simplicity push them over the hump. Prove us wrong, Maryville.
On paper, Radiance is the better team here. Unfortunately Radiance has been underperforming relative to their talent and their coaching staff, while Supernova Dark Matter has been overperforming over that same stretch. We won’t predict the upset, but we will predict the tie here.
Prediction: 2-0 Mirage
Mirage is making a case as the favorite in Group A with both ANEW and Supernova slumping. Team Fish Taco is a fun team with fun players but we think Mirage wins this one running away.
Supernova’s stock continues to slide while Wildcard’s stock continues to rise. Podcast guest Wolverene even predicted Wildcard would win the whole tournament. We’re not sure about going that far, but we do think even with SN’s likely resurgence this week, Wildcard will hold their own for a 1-1.
Prediction: 2-0 XTGN
These teams seem pretty evenly matched on paper, but we think XTGN is a hot team right now, and they continue to ride that momentum into a 2-0 win this week vs Life Support.
Prediction: 2-0 ANEW
Have the other amateur teams figured out the formula to beating ANEW? Signals point to yes based on results from last week, but we think they’ll adapt and overcome this week. Polar Ace is a good team with good players, but we need to see some wins before we buy in.
Both Dark Allegiance and Frostfire went 2-2 last week, although Frostfire’s 2-2 record included a 2-0 sweep of Maryville which we think is more impressive. We want to lean towards Frostfire here, but Dark Allegiance just keeps taking games off of people who don’t expect it, so we’ll give them that credit here by predicting a tie.
Prediction: 2-0 Maryville
SN Dark Matter is playing really well in this league, and the best of 2 format seems to suit them. But we can’t foresee Maryville staying at the bottom of the standings, they simply have too much talent to stay there long. They’re due for a win this week and we believe we’ll see it vs Supernova Dark Matter.
